Frequently asked questions

What Algoright AI filters, which platforms it supports, what happens to your data, and what separates Free from Pro. Where something is not built yet, it says so.

General

What is Algoright AI?

A browser extension that filters content inside YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X. It sorts videos and posts into 35 categories based on their title and channel name, and hides the categories you have switched off — while leaving the platform itself fully usable.

How is it different from a website blocker?

A website blocker works at the site level: YouTube is either available or it is not. Algoright works one level down, on the individual videos and posts inside the feed. Search, subscriptions and direct links keep working, so you can use the platform for what you came for without the recommendation surfaces pulling you sideways.

Does Algoright block YouTube?

No. Nothing is made unreachable. A filtered video is hidden from the feed, but if you search for it or follow a link to it, it plays normally.

Which browsers does it support?

Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

Does it work on mobile?

No. Algoright is a browser extension, so it works in a desktop browser. It cannot filter the YouTube, TikTok or Instagram mobile apps, because extensions have no access inside a native app. A mobile companion app is on the roadmap and is not shipped.

Filtering

What content can it filter?

Any of 35 categories — including Clickbait, Gossip, Politics, News, Gaming, Crypto, Comedy, Cooking, Fitness, Coding, Science and Education. Separately from categories, it can hide Shorts and Reels entirely, hide the sidebar and "up next" recommendations, hide comment sections, and hide sponsored posts.

How does it decide what a video is about?

It reads the title or caption and the channel or account name, and sorts that into a category. It does not watch the video or analyse images.

How accurate is it?

We do not publish an accuracy figure, because we do not have a benchmark we would trust enough to put a number on. What we can say plainly: descriptive titles classify well, and short or slangy captions — common on TikTok and Instagram — classify less reliably than YouTube titles. When it gets one wrong you can correct it from the extension, and the correction feeds back into the classifier.

Can I customise the filtering?

Yes. Every category is an individual switch, and there are three presets if you would rather not configure 35 things by hand. Pro adds Deep Work Mode, which inverts the idea and locks the feed to a single category.

Can I still search normally?

Yes. Search is untouched on every supported platform. Filtering applies to recommendation surfaces — the feed, the sidebar, Shorts, Reels and Explore.

Privacy and data

Does Algoright collect my browsing data?

No. It does not collect browsing history, watch history, passwords or account credentials. The extension only runs on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X, and only reads the feed titles it needs in order to filter them.

Does anything leave my browser?

For most videos, no — classification runs locally in your browser. When the local classifier is genuinely unsure about a title, that title can be sent to an AI model for a second opinion. That is the only case where anything is transmitted, and it can be switched off completely in settings, making classification local-only.

Does it use AI?

Yes, in a specific and limited way. A classifier runs locally in your browser and handles the large majority of videos. An AI model assists only on the low-confidence remainder. It reads a title and a channel name and returns a category — that is the whole job.

Do I need an account?

Not for YouTube filtering, which works immediately after install with no sign-up. An account is needed for Pro features, for syncing settings across devices, and for the analytics dashboard.

Plans and billing

What does the free plan include?

AI filtering on YouTube, hiding Shorts, Reels and clickbait, a basic focus session timer, weekly stats in the extension popup, one device, and up to 1,000 videos filtered a day. It is free forever and does not require a card.

What does Pro add?

Filtering on TikTok, Instagram and X; Deep Work Mode; hiding YouTube comments; daily screentime limits with alerts; the full analytics dashboard; custom category training; sync across devices; priority support; and no daily video cap.

How much is Pro?

$4.99 a month, or $49 a year which works out about 18% cheaper. Both include a 7-day free trial.

What is the 1,000 videos a day limit?

It is the cap on how many videos the free plan will classify in a day. For scale, an hour of heavy scrolling is roughly 200 to 400 videos, so Free comfortably covers normal use. Pro removes the cap.

Are there family or parental controls?

Not yet. Family safety controls and company/team focus controls are listed on the roadmap as upcoming and are not shipped. We would rather say that plainly than let them read as available.
