Blocking the site is not the same as filtering the feed
Most tools in this space are site blockers. You add youtube.com to a list and it becomes unreachable for a set period. That works for a deadline. It does not work for the situation most people are actually in, which is needing the platform for something specific while not wanting the rest of it.
Blocking is all-or-nothing, so people turn it off. Once it is off, the feed is exactly as it was. The underlying problem — that the recommendation system keeps offering things you did not ask for — is untouched.

Both approaches are legitimate and they solve different problems. If what you want is a hard lock during exam week, a blocker is the right tool. If you want the platform to stay useful while the noisy parts stop reaching you, that is what content filtering is for.
What it can filter
Every video or post that appears in a feed gets sorted into one of 35 categories — among them Gaming, Clickbait, Gossip, Politics, News, Crypto, Comedy, Cooking, Fitness, Coding, Science and Education. You choose which of those you want hidden.
On top of category filtering there are structural controls that do not depend on classification at all: hide Shorts and Reels entirely, hide the sidebar and "up next" recommendations, hide comment sections, and hide sponsored posts.
What it does not do
It does not moderate content for accuracy, and it is not a safety or parental-control product today. Family safety controls are on the roadmap and are not shipped yet — see the roadmap for what is actually in progress.
Filtering per platform
Each platform surfaces algorithmic content differently, so the filtering works differently on each one:
- YouTube content filter — the home feed, the sidebar, Shorts and comments. Free forever.
- TikTok content filter — the For You page, where essentially all of the content is algorithmic. Pro.
- Instagram Reels filter — Reels, Explore and suggested posts. Pro.
- X — the algorithmic timeline and suggested posts. Pro.
Where the classification happens
Most of it happens on your own machine. The extension reads the title and channel or account name of items in the feed and classifies them locally in the browser. Only titles the local classifier is genuinely unsure about are sent for AI assistance, and that assistance can be turned off completely in settings, in which case nothing leaves your device at all.
Algoright does not receive your browsing history, your watch history or your account credentials. The privacy policy sets out precisely what is sent, when, and what is stored.
Common questions
What is an AI social media content filter?
It is a filter that reads what a post or video is about and hides the ones you have said you do not want, while leaving the rest of the platform working normally. A traditional blocker works at the site level — YouTube is either on or off. A content filter works one level down, on the individual videos and posts inside the feed.
How is this different from a website blocker?
A website blocker gives you two states: full access or none. That is useful for a deadline, but it fails the common case where you genuinely need the platform — looking up a tutorial, checking a channel you follow — and just do not want the feed pulling you sideways. Algoright leaves the platform usable and removes the specific categories you chose.
Which platforms does it filter?

Does it send my browsing history anywhere?
No. Classification runs locally in your browser for the large majority of videos. A small number of low-confidence titles are sent for AI assistance, and you can switch that off entirely in settings. Can I still search and use the platform normally?
Yes. Search, subscriptions, direct links and your own uploads all work exactly as before. Filtering applies to the recommendation surfaces — the feed, the sidebar, Shorts and Reels — which is where algorithmic content actually reaches you.
