How Algoright AI works
Three steps to set up, then it runs on its own. Below that, a plain description of what actually happens to a video between appearing in your feed and being hidden — including the parts that involve a server.
Setting it up
Install the extension
Available for Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox. Filtering YouTube does not require an account — you can install it and have a filtered feed without signing up for anything.
Choose your filters
Click the Algoright icon and switch off the categories you do not want. There are 35 of them, plus separate switches for hiding Shorts and Reels, the sidebar, comments and sponsored posts. Three presets are available if you would rather not start from scratch.
Browse normally
Filtering applies as feeds load. Nothing else about how you use the platform changes — search, subscriptions and links all behave as before.
What happens to a single video
This is the part worth understanding properly, because it is also the answer to the privacy question.
- A video appears in your feed. The extension reads two things about it: the title or caption, and the channel or account name. It does not read the video, your history or your account.
- It is classified locally first. A classifier running inside your browser assigns it a category. For the large majority of videos this is where the process ends — nothing leaves your device.
- Low-confidence titles may get AI assistance. When the local classifier is genuinely unsure, the title can be sent to be classified by an AI model. This is the only case where anything leaves your browser, and it can be switched off completely in settings.
- The category is compared against your settings. If you have switched that category off, the video is hidden from the feed. If not, it stays.
- You can correct it. If something is filed wrongly, you can say so from the extension, and that correction feeds back into the classifier.
Hiding is not blocking
A filtered video is removed from the feed, not made unreachable. Search for it, or follow a link to it, and it plays normally. The goal is to stop the algorithm offering things unprompted — not to put a lock between you and the platform.
What the extension can see
The extension has permission to run on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X, because that is where it has to read feed titles in order to filter them. It does not have access to other sites, and it does not collect browsing history, watch history, passwords or account details.
The privacy policy sets out exactly what is transmitted, in which circumstances, and what is retained.

YouTube filtering is free forever, with no account required, covering up to 1,000 videos filtered a day. For context, an hour of heavy scrolling is roughly 200 to 400 videos, so that covers a normal day comfortably.
