How to block YouTube recommendations without losing the useful ones

Most tools either leave YouTube's recommendations alone or wipe them out. Algoright sorts every recommended video into a category and hides the categories you don't want, so the home page and sidebar only suggest things you'd actually choose.

Category filtering is free on YouTube. Hide sidebar and Deep Work Mode are part of Pro.

Why not remove every recommendation?

Tools that blank out the home page work, but they also take away the videos you'd genuinely want, like the next lecture in a course or a new upload from a channel you love. Many people switch them off after a week and end up back where they started.

Filtering keeps recommendations and changes what is in them. You decide which of 35 categories are allowed, and YouTube's suggestions pass through that choice.

What Algoright changes on YouTube

Home page and sidebar: every video gets a category label, and videos in categories you've switched off are removed. The category chip bar and the "Explore more topics" shelf are always hidden, since both exist to pull you into browsing.

Watch page, with Pro: Hide sidebar removes the recommended videos next to the one you're watching, along with YouTube's left-hand menu.

Everywhere: Hide clickbait filters exaggerated thumbnails and titles, and Hide short-form videos removes Shorts.

Stricter still: Deep Work Mode (Pro)

When your feed has to stay on task, Deep Work Mode narrows every recommendation to Learning, Work and Finance with one switch.

Search and subscriptions keep working

Filtering only changes what YouTube suggests. Search, your subscriptions and any video you open on purpose work as normal, so you're never locked out of something you went looking for.

Questions about YouTube recommendations

Can I turn off YouTube recommendations completely?

Algoright filters the home page rather than emptying it: switch off every category you don't want and only the ones you keep are suggested. If you want the home page blank, a tool like DF Tube does that.

Is it free?

Category filtering, hiding Shorts and hiding clickbait on YouTube are free. Hide sidebar and Deep Work Mode are part of Pro, which is one payment of $9.99 for life.

Does this change my YouTube account?

No. Algoright hides videos in your browser. It doesn't change your YouTube account, your watch history or anything YouTube stores.

What if a video is labelled wrong?

Click the ✗ on its label and pick the right category. Corrections feed back into the on-device classifier, so similar videos are sorted better over time.

Does it work in the YouTube app?

No. It works on youtube.com in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer.

Filter your recommendations
