How to hide YouTube Shorts on your computer

YouTube has no setting to turn Shorts off. Algoright removes them with one switch: the Shorts shelves on your home page and in search, Shorts in your feed, and the Shorts button in the menu. It's free, and it's already on when you install.

Free on YouTube, no account needed. On TikTok, Instagram and X, hiding short-form video is part of Pro.

Why YouTube won't let you turn Shorts off

YouTube lets you mark a single Short as "not interested", but there's no switch to remove the format. The Shorts shelf comes back on your next visit, and Shorts keep appearing between regular videos on the home page and in search.

On a computer, hiding them in the browser is the only reliable way, and that's what Algoright does.

What the switch removes

With Hide short-form videos on, Algoright removes the Shorts shelves from your home page and search results, individual Shorts that show up in your feed, and the Shorts entry in YouTube's left-hand menu. The same switch also hides videos labelled Clickbait or Celebrity & Gossip.

Everything else stays as it was: regular videos, subscriptions, search and playlists all work normally. If you open a Shorts link someone sends you, it still plays. Nothing is blocked; the feed just stops offering Shorts.

On from the start

New installs start with Hide short-form videos switched on, so Shorts are gone the first time you open YouTube. You can turn it off at any time in the extension.

Hiding Shorts vs filtering by category

Hiding Shorts removes the whole format. If you'd rather keep some Shorts, such as cooking or coding tips, and lose the rest, leave the switch off and use category filtering instead. Every video, Shorts included, gets a category label, and the categories you switch off disappear from your feed.

Hide Shorts in three steps

2

Refresh any YouTube tab that was open before you installed. Shorts disappear straight away.

Questions about hiding Shorts

Is hiding YouTube Shorts free?

Yes. Hiding Shorts on YouTube is part of the free plan, for good, with no account and no card.

Can I still watch a Short someone sends me?

Yes. Algoright stops YouTube offering Shorts in your feed, but a Shorts link you open on purpose still plays.

Does it hide Shorts in search results?

Yes. The Shorts shelves in search results are removed, as well as the ones on the home page.

Does it work in the YouTube app on my phone?

No. Algoright is a browser extension, so it works on youtube.com in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer. It can't change the iOS or Android app.

Can I hide Instagram Reels and TikTok the same way?

Yes, with Pro. The same switch hides Instagram Reels and blocks TikTok's feed, since TikTok is all short-form video.
