Screen time

How to limit TikTok usage — and YouTube, Instagram and X

Set a daily minute limit for a platform. When you hit it, a real overlay stops the feed and tells you your time is up — not a reminder notification you can swipe away.

What actually happens

Set a limit — say 30 minutes on TikTok — and Algoright counts active minutes on that platform while the tab is visible and you are actually on it. Switching tabs pauses the count; switching back resumes it.

Once the minutes run out, a full-screen card appears: "Your TikTok time is up.". It is not a small badge or a browser notification easy to dismiss without reading — it sits over the page. From there you can leave, or add extra minutes for that day if you genuinely need more time.

Separate from content filtering

The time limit is independent of category filtering. You can set a strict TikTok limit without filtering any categories, or filter heavily with no time limit at all — they do not depend on each other.

Why a limit instead of a blocker

A site blocker removes the choice entirely, all day. A time limit lets you decide how much TikTok is reasonable for a day and then holds you to that number — you still get to use it, just not indefinitely.

If what you actually want is TikTok gone from your day entirely, a blocker is the simpler tool. This is for the much more common case: not wanting to quit the platform, wanting a stopping point that a mental note never reliably provides.

Setting it per platform

1

Install Algoright AI

No account needed for this feature specifically.

2

Open the popup on TikTok

Switch to the TikTok tab in the popup and turn on Daily Limit for that platform.

3

Pick your minutes

Set whatever number feels reasonable. Repeat on any other platform you want a separate limit for.

Questions about daily limits

Does this work on TikTok, or only YouTube?

It works the same way on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X — each platform gets its own limit, tracked separately, so setting a TikTok limit does not touch your YouTube one.

What actually happens when I hit the limit?

A full-screen overlay appears: "Your [platform] time is up." Filters return to their normal state and the page stays there until you close the tab or add extra time.

Can I give myself more time if I actually need the platform?

Yes. The overlay lets you add extra minutes for that specific platform, for that day only — it does not raise your limit permanently or affect other platforms.

Does it track total device time or just this platform?

Just the platform it is set on, and only while the tab is visible and actually active — switching to another tab pauses the count.

Do I need an account or Pro?

No. This is a local, browser-side timer with no server dependency, and it works the same regardless of plan or whether you are signed in.

Set your first daily limit

Works the same on TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and X. No account required.
